9.10 Icebreaker – Names and rhymes; sample verbal reasoning

9.30 Sample Non-Verbal Reasoning paper – exploring some

10.00 Break

10.30 English – How to read? Examining questions – what
           are they asking? What's a sentence? What's a
           paragraph? Some rules of Comprehension;
           incomplete sentences; paraphrasing practice

11.15 In pairs examining comprehension questions 
           underlining key words  
          

11.30 Writing answers

12.00 Lunch break

12.30 Introduction; mental maths game
          (Multiply by two as high as possible – to infinity)
          Maths Glossary – examine the terms used in questions;

1.00 End. Interview list given to children to think about at

Below you will see examples of some exercises we would like you to practise in readiness for next weekend's workshop.

Workshop December 10th - 11th



Bloomsbury Kids’ Club has been working hard all year. On 10th - 11th December an intensive booster weekend takes place at Coram’s Fields. This is an accelerator mode workshop given by tutors, Nuala and Fiona. The workshop is designed to take students to the top of their abilities; giving them comprehensive revision, effective exam tactics and the confidence to achieve their best.

Venue: Coram’s Fields Meeting room
Times: Saturday 10th December 9.00 – 1.oo/Sunday 11th 10.oo – 2.00
Price: £80 all inclusive

 The workshops will focus on the following areas:

·     English Comprehension Skills
·     Essay format

·     Maths revision & speed tests

·     Verbal Reasoning skills
·     Non Verbal Reasoning Skills

·     Reading exam papers
·     Exam technique
·     Visualisation Techniques for Success


A pre-task will be completed by every Bloomsbury Kids’ Club participant, to gauge ability and target particular areas for intensive support.

Nuala OSullivan BSc MSc PGCHE MCIPD GBRBPS
Nuala has been preparing students for entrance exams for a quarter of a century using a range of inputs to boost skills and add polish to written tasks. As an occupational psychologist with teaching qualifications she focuses on drawing out student confidence to embrace the assessment challenges, encouraging kids to feel equal to the tasks set. Quick to spot areas for improvement she has devised her own curriculum to augment the standard education fare of this age group. Planning individual success strategies is integral to her approach. Nuala is looking forward to the Bloomsbury Kids Club booster weekend and meeting you all in December.

Fiona O’Connor BA (Hons) MA
A freelance writer and lecturer at University of Westminster, Fiona has been teaching in several capacities for many years. She is currently preparing students for 10+ and 11+ school entrance. She has an MA in Child Psychology and is mother of two children aged 19 and 10.

Bloomsbury Kids' Club has been in existence as a casual group of determined children for the last twenty five years. Under the guidance of dedicated tutors Bloomsbury kids have been preparing for secondary school life, aiming for success and achieving it.

Bloomsbury kids have been successful in gaining scholarships to among the following schools: City of London School for Boys; City of London School for Girls; Christ's Hospital; Lady Margaret's School; Marylebone CE School; Christ's Hospital; Haberdasher's Askes Hatchem College and Westminster School for Boys.

A series of intensive workshops held over weekends and during the school holidays prepare Bloomsbury kids to give their very best at exam times. The next workshop will take place on the weekend of 10th to 11th of December at Coram's Fields Meeting Room.
